thanks. i had the first of these filed away already. it has one important piece of my longer write-up.
over the years i've gotten a number of messages peeving about "different from", and i've responded to most of them, but usually with a very brief run-down of the MWDEU article. but a couple of times i've done more elaborate syntheses, with material collected from sources.
it looks like i'm just going to have to re-write this stuff from scratch. sigh.
