Hi all,

To return to the perennial dialectological issue of sandwich names…

I'm following up on a comment in Bill Labov's 2006 2nd Ed. of Social Stratification. He says in a footnote that one sign of the small size of the NYC Dialect area is the lack of penetration of the NYC term "hero" to much of the NJ portion of the metro area. I decided to see if it's possible to make an isogloss boundary using stores-restaurants-delis-pizzerias using a crowdsourcing methodology to collect data. So I created a survey where people in NJ (or familiar with stores there) can add the terms used on signs and menus. If you're in NJ and wouldn't mind taking an anonymous 2 minute survey, follow the link below. If you know someone there would help out, they can do so too.

I have about 45 responses so far, but I need more. When it's done, I'll create a map and post it on my page.
