On an old clip on Turner Classic Movies, director George Sidney (born in
Long Island City in 1916) says that when Ava Gardner (born in Grabtown in
1922) came to Hollywood in the '40s, "She couldn't speak English. She was
from the South."

You couldn't understand her.
