Quarterly updates from the OED were just released.

The first cite for the new entry for "Rosie the Riveter" is 28 Dec 1942.

Ogden Standard-Examiner | Ogden, Utah | Saturday, November 14, 1942 |
Page 7 col 1 (Newspaperarchive)
"Rosie, the riveter-r-r-r-r."

The above cite is most likely a reference to the Evans and Loeb song
(which was copyrighted 11/6/1942).

An early (earlier than the OED) figurative citation:

_Dallas Morning News_ 12/14/1942 p 4 col 6 (Newsbank)
"But the piece does make its patriotic point with Betty Rhodes as a
Winnie the Welder, or is it Rosie the Riveter converting the comely
Miller lass to overalls and Johnnie Johnston, leader of the little jive
group and his boys to beating out the rhythm with rivets, and sending
solid for Uncle Sam."

The first OED cite for the sports sense of "rookie" is 3/16/1908.

San Antonio Express 3/14/1906 p 9 col 5 (Newsbank)
" "ROOKIES" HELD REGULAR TEAM DOWN SOMEWHAT" [subheadline]
[Note: "rookie" in the military sense goes back to 1868. This may be a
crossover citation, in that an Army team from Ft. Sam Houston is the
team being referred to as "rookies".]
