Somewhat amusing typo -- "altering" for "alerting"

In response to an email message in which I called attention to a
traffic light frequently disobeyed (by drivers) and partially
obscured (by tree leaves), the "Transportation Administrator" (whom I
leave unnamed) of a town near Boston wrote:

"Thank you for altering us to this issue, we will have it addressed
immediately."

I am impressed that my comment redirected their attention.
