Macquarie WOTY 2010 nominees

The phonetic spelling of the words below shows the need for a reasonable standard English based phonetic spelling (note the r dropping)

The Committee's choice of Word of the Year 2010 is: googleganger goohguhlganguh
noun a person with the same name as oneself, whose online references are mixed with one's own among search results for one's name.

The Committee would like to give honourable mention to: vuvuzela oohvuh'zayluh
noun a plastic horn (def. 13), up to one metre in length, which emits a loud buzzing sound; commonly played in South Africa by fans at soccer games.  [? Zulu vuvu to make a noise]

The problem with the phonetics above is long and short "oo".  How would one think "guhl" is pronounced.  I'd say "gull" But really it's short oo as in "wool".  In actual text counts "oo" is used more for short oo than long oo.  So an English based system should use letter string oo to represent the sound in "good wood" as truespel phonetics does ~good ~wood.  That leaves the question as to how to represent long oo.  In truespel its ~ue as in the words "true blue".  This is true to the rule that all long vowels are represented by silent e being moved over to it.  So "rule" becomes ~ruel.

IMHO the word of the year should be wikileaks.   I recently heard a TV commentator say "in this age of wikileaks"...   what other word has an entire age given for it.
