 From the NYTimes, Sunday March 27, in an adjunct (p. A18, N.E.
edition) to its front-page article on sexting:

What They're Saying About Sexting

[Interviews by the NYT of teenagers, individually and in two focus
groups.  Place and interview type of the following not identified.]

Q. Do boys sext as often as girls?

Farrah[:]  No. But the guys who get caught sexting are the cockier
ones who just like to show off what they're working with.

For "cocky, adj." the OED has the uncensorable sense 2. of
"arrogantly pert" from 1768.  It has a sense 1 of "lecherous. Obs."
for and only for 1549.  The quotation above is less figurative and
more concrete.
