Bin Laden and PC

How did the Amerindian leader get that name?  Surely it's a "white" name (a version of Hieronymous or Jerome), not an indigenous one.  I'm having a hard time finding the answer!

I guess none of spokesindividuals are familiar with the use of "Geronimo!"
as a paratrooper's motto, based on the Burt Lancaster movie.
