At Whole Foods in Kahului yesterday, I was stunned to see unagi (freshwater eel) with teriyaki sauce on the menu. I verified with some Japanese residents that teriyaki is common on unagi.
In Japanese cooking, unagi is typically done kabayaki style (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabayaki) and sprinkled with Sichuan pepper (sansho).
In both cases, unagi is often served rice bowl style (donburi).
In any case, this provides evidence for the use of unagi in English outside of sushi usage. Is unagi a menu item in Mainland teriyaki restaurants?
