Wilson, your comments directed at me (below) are uncalled-for and
uncongenial. I only meant to suggest that Obama may have been
puttin' on one or the other pronunciations (Labor Day speech vs.
Harvard) deliberately. As Ben wrote, using the appropriate
terminology. You yourself suggest that he may have been puttin' on
his dialect while at Harvard.
And when you wrote "has to go all the way back to old master",
shouldn't that be "ol' massa"? An "old master" is a painting.
