This is a term not in the OED, which must be rapidly approaching the
revision of the Rs.
>From an article in the NYTimes of several weeks ago, on an old hand-carved
merry-go-round being opened in Brooklyn, in a building designed for it by a
noted architect.

Each is different: one, perhaps an American Indian pony, has two feathers on
its decorative, or what carousel aficionados call its “*romantic” side* *...
