Elizha in 1961

I was channel surfing this evening when I happened upon the 1961 move
"King of Kings," surely as bad a religious epic as ever has been
filmed. But the movie was just at the point where someone in the
crowd asks John the Baptist if he is "Elizha." Very clearly a voiced
fricative. I didn't realize that foreignizing of the orthographic <j>
was around 51 years ago. I wonder how long it's been going on.
