Indeed. I myself am a member of the FaceBook SIG, "Don't Call Me
'African-American'." I'm also in the SIG, "Word. The Online Journal on
African-American English," but its perpetrators are cool enough to
acknowledge that don't everybody be going for that "African-American"
mess.
