Maybe no more than coincidence, but heavy metal *is* loud:

1956 S. L. A. Marshall  _Pork Chop Hill_ (N.Y.: Morrow) 160: The Chinese
artillery and mortars ranged in and where the earth was not shaking from
heavy metal, bullet fire was pinging off the rocks and cutting the grasses.
