"every since"

Just heard Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come" (mid-1960s) on the radio, and even though the lyrics as they appear on the web--

I was born by the river in a little tent
Oh and just like the river I've been running ever since
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

--specify the standard "ever since", the actual words sung are (as Wilson would predict) "every since".  I'd have been surprised if I hadn't been pre-apprised.
