Bill Mullins:
"I thought it was funny that a full bird Colonel was quoted saying "blow
job" in the NYT."

Suggests that either the term "blow job" was limited to the military at the
time, or the reporter & the editors of the NYTimes who passed on this story
led lives of sequestered virtue.  The full bird Colonel must have been a
bit of a rascal, though -- taking advantage of the innocence of those
newspapermen.
