Fire = cook

For fire (v), definition 9 in the the OED has
trans. To subject to the action of fire; to prepare by heat; e.g. to bake (pottery, bricks, etc.); to dry or cure (tea or tobacco) by artificial heat.
"Prepare by heat" is close to "cook" though the rest makes it seem this does not apply. My take on "fire" meaning cook is that it is restaurant industry jargon and perhaps means "begin to cook" rather than just "cook."
