2. "Phasing" out the use of the word "morph"...
"Phase" has been gone from field guides published since the '80s and
replaced with "morph", but both David Sibley and Brian Wheeler are in the
process of dropping "morph" as well from their books in favor of just
light, dark, blue, red, gray, etc. in association with Redtail, Roughleg,
Snow Goose, Screech Owl. Here's a brief history of the elimination of
"phase" with the transition to "morph" in field guides:
