It did. But this hint is not present for all speakers. When I first
heard chicks referring to and addressing one another as "guys" at UC
Davis back in 1969, it was as bizarre as any other language-change in
progress that I've come across for the first time. In 2012, however,
that _guys_ can be used by, to, and of a group consisting only of
women is no odder than the fact that _people_ can be used that way.
