 From a Fox News correspondence, concerning Senate Dems' suggestion that
they would rather let Bush tax cuts expire if Republicans don't want to
make a deal on the upper end:

"This is just semantics for November."

OED has something close, but not quite the same. I'm also not sure if it
falls under the "weakened sense".
