How recent was the "disciplined" reference? The police officer has
been identified by name today (by noon if not earlier) and
disciplined at least to the extent of being suspended with pay --
which may not sound harsh, but there are civil service regulations
governing. There is to be a hearing rapidly, next week, after which
he could conceivably be dismissed. (It is reported that there are
other incidents of his unbecoming behavior.)
Also, in case anyone elsewhere does not follow the Red Sox day-to-day
(I do, because I'm a hater of the Sox from the upper Bronx), Crawford
has been back in the Sox's lineup for I think the last two games.
As Larry noted, both the Red Sox management and their fans have been
notably disinclined towards black players -- they were the last team
to have a black player, the well-known Pumpsie Green.
