Probably not dipshit but just dip, a stupid or unsophisticated person.  But it is an antedating; M-W has it only from 1932.

There is also a slight antedating of hophead in the http://www.barnaclepress.com/cmcvlt/Foolish%20Questions/fq090725.jpg strip; M-W has it from 1911.
