My wife, who grew up in Chicago, can pronounce trippingly on the tongue many consonant clusters that exceed my own "Southern" abilities--such as that in "fifth" or "wasps" or "shrimp." However, I recently overheard a phone conversaton in which she thrice inflected the verb "text" as [tEksIz] ("So he ___'s me that . . .). I wonder if that form is common (outside the South) with the new verb "text."
