Present-tense singular of the verb "text"

My wife, who grew up in Chicago, can pronounce trippingly on the tongue many consonant clusters that exceed my own "Southern" abilities--such as that in "fifth" or "wasps" or "shrimp."  However, I recently overheard a phone conversaton in which she thrice inflected the verb "text" as [tEksIz]  ("So he ___'s me that . . .).  I wonder if that form is common (outside the South) with the new verb "text."
