"Windburn" came into the (OED's) lexicon in 1939. One year after the
great New England Hurricane of 1938, which is estimated to have
caused between 700 and 800 deaths. " It remains the most powerful,
costliest and deadliest hurricane in recent New England history,
eclipsed in landfall intensity perhaps only by the Great Colonial
Hurricane of 1635."
Cause and effect?
