I have tape recordings of 60 4th graders from segregated schools in Tallahassee, 1969, 30 white and 30 black children. The recordings were transcribed into regular orthographic spelling and their syntax analyzed (The Syntax of the Speech of Urban (Tallahassee) Negro and White Fourth Graders, by Mike Pope (Florida State University, Dissertation Abstracts, 1969). This research was reported in Syntactic maturity of black and white fourth graders' speech, by Mike Pope, Research in the Teaching of English, Vol.5 No.2 Fall 1971. These recordings have not been analyzed phonologically. To anyone interested in them I will send the tapes and the transcriptions (don't want them to wind up in the dumpster).
