'Peeved' and 'peevish' duly noted. But I still bet you wouldn't find many young people who knew what they meant or used them - or, if they did use them (for example with the 'ill' meaning, if it's a local identity-marker), any young people who connected that meaning with the phrase we were originally discussing, 'pet peeve'.
