"gunfight" and "exchange of gunfire"

For those who can't recall, some of the Guardsmen at Kent State thought
they'd heard shots fired at them. Others didn't. There was no evidence that
anyone had shot at them.

Some claimed they'd heard an order to fire. Others didn't.
