Right, and I recall from an earlier article that aficionados (including my son at times) are known as "vapers", which has a 2010 entry in urbandic. Not to be confused with "viper" (cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/If_You%27re_a_Viper; I have a great version on vinyl by Martin, Bogan & Armstrong), of which it sounds like an ablaut variant. It all depends on what you're smoking, or not quite smoking.
