Here's still earlier evidence of "finalize," again from Australia:

1850 _Bell's Life in Sydney and Sporting Reviewer_ 14 Dec. 2 (TROVE)  Out of one murder confessed, succeed -- nothing stopping -- several successive most bloody jobs, most effectually performed by various cut-throats; and these conventionally continue for the removal of superfluous life in others, and are most admirably finalized in the like death of every man of each of this "cut and thrust fraternity."
