Law of Conservation of Suffixes? Actually, "boogie" was the the standard local term when I was growing up. I'm not familiar with "doober" for "doobie", but it strikes me as a plausible affectionate diminutive, maybe related to the -er used for guy-to-guy nicknames (at least in buddy movies).
