I live just barely within range of an exceedingly low-powered radio station
that has a policy of playing only records cut before 1970. It has just
gone onto the internet, so its restricted FCC license no longer keeps the
unfortunate many who live more than 35 miles from Hyde Park from
listening. The guy who owns the station, Pirate Joe, is on mike playing
from his collection of 78s, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, 3 to 6. Other
large blocks of time carry old-time music, country, blues, boogie-woogie,
jazz, vaudeville, & whatnot, but with no DJ on mike.
Yesterday he played "Who Put the Benzadrine in Mrs. Murphy's Ovaltine" by
Harry the Hipster Gibson -- that may not be Dialect, but it sure is
American. Check it out. WHVW.net.
