Today on Book TV, Prof. Robert Rydell of Montana State University
pronounced this as "epi-tome" (rhymes with "Kodachrome").

My teachers ridiculed people who said that, but Rydell, with a doctorate
from UCLA, looks fifteen years younger than I am.
