Real (But Slight) Antedating of "Jeep"

OK, here is the real antedating of "jeep," in the modern sense:


jeep (HDAS Feb. 20, 1941)

1941 _Springfield_ (MA) _Republican_ 10 Feb. 14 (America's Historical Newspapers)  (caption to photograph)  THE "JEEPS" ARE COMING! -- Traveling on a rough and muddy road, Uncle Sam's "Jeeps" (miniature transport cars) roll over a ridge in the Fort Benning, Ga. area.  The army is experimenting with these midget cars, using them to haul men and guns under war-time conditions.
