1921 H. L. Mencken in _Smart Set_ Dec. (American Periodical Series)  In the end she departs for Los Angeles and an artistic career with twenty proposals of marriage, five trunks full of clothes, and a sight draft for $400.  Mr. Read's proposed law would rob the booboisie of all this entertainment.
