I don't know what's going on with the Advanced Search page, but I
noticed that search options are available if you're searching within a
group, e.g.:

https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!forum/alt.usage.english

There's a down arrow in the search box which, when clicked, reveals
advanced search parameters. I have no idea why these options don't
seem to be available from the main search page.
