In an e-mail to me. Are people now deciding that "angst" is just another
word for any random feeling of pissed-off-ness, no longer having any
connection with [existential] _Angst_ at all?

I'd say something, but I learned long ago that people - especially friends
- tins to get upset, when you be correckin' they English.
