Trove, "History of Submarines AN IRISHMAN THE INVENTOR. (Communicated.)",
Freeman's Journal (Sydney, NSW : 1850 - 1932) Thursday 14 January 1915 p 13 Article.

Quoting Mr. Isaac L. Rice, chairman of the Electric Boat Company, of New York, about German infringement of his submarine patents:

[Begin]

man engineers who have figured in the de-
velopment of their underwater craft, and so
far as I know, the only name of the German
type is 'the U boats,' from the initial of
'unterseeboten.'
