hwg: <winner of the 1954 high-school winner of the Latin Contest of the
Missouri Province of the Society of Jesus> writes:
<<Why wouldn't it be ... Latin _lapsus digitalis_ = English "finger-slip">>
WB: Well, this two-time recipient of honorable & superlative merit
certificates from Auxilium Latinum (National Classroom Latin Magazine) in
1965 & 1966 (contests held in the archdiocese of Boston, no less; believe
my HS team still has a trophy in Kingston) says:
lapsus linguae 'slip of the tongue'; therefore, lapsus digiti 'slip of the
finger'. Nyah-nyah. Semper ubi sub ubi.
