Perhaps you meant before the World Wide Web, which was invented in 1989.
The internet goes back longer, as evidenced by Usenet which goes back to
around 1981. Usenet is a rich source of antedatings (especially and
unsurprisingly for internet jargon) and searchable via Google Groups.
