foreign words, again

Heard on Fox News today: "Euro-MAIDEN"... "What's that?" "It's what the
pro-European protesters refer to themselves".

Maidan -- that would be "MAI-DAHN" or "M at i-DAHN", not "MEY-d at n"--is
supposed to be the Kiev equivalent of agora, complete with underlying
political and rhetorical nuances. I haven't watched enough TV to know
how other TV talking heads are pronouncing it.
