1824 _Monthly Journal of Medicine_ 1 Jan. 18 (American Periodical Series)  MEDICINE has been defined, by those skilled

in terminological lore and scholastic distinction, to be the art of prolonging life and curing disease.

[NOTE: This antedating invalidates the usual assignment of coinage of this word to Winston Churchill, in his famous reference

to "terminological inexactitude"]
