According to the article, the fashion mag, Elle, has announced that the
"Timberland" brand of boots - called "timbs" and hip among the the boyz in
the hood since the '90's - is "trending" among the glitterati. The writer
for Elle, herself black, got a lot of flack as a race traitor (1921: A
menace to sound, democratic racial relations, a race baiter and a _race
traitor_, [Marcus] Garvey must go.) for not making clear the connection
between hip-hop and the wearing of timbs and, even before that, their
popularity among construction workers and other members of the working
class.
