The Yale Book of Quotations has a 1967 citation for the quotation in
the subject line with an attribution to Yogi Berra. Other reference
works have later citations or simply state "attributed". There is a
similar statement attributed to the prominent impresario Sol Hurok:

When people don't want to come, nothing will stop them.
