I didn't hear the story about the sleeve job till 1961. The Army buddy's
version had the protagonist slip on a bar of soap, fall, and break his
neck, dying before he could find out what the sleeve job was and pass along
that knowledge through Greg, a riveting raconteur, to the couple of dozen
listeners whom he held in thrall as he strung out his tale. Presumably,
Mr. Smith isn't telling, either.

<sigh!>
