William H.T. Bush, younger brother of President George H.W. Bush, hence,
uncle of Dubya, was president of this bank from 1978 to 1986. Bank of
America bought it for $9,600,000,000 in 1996. He still lives in The Lou -
well, he lives *at* The Lou, anyway; very few people said to be "St.
Louisans" live in the city, these days* - the home of his late grandfather
George Herbert Walker, for whom the Walker Cup is named.
*By local custom, anybody from anywhere in the greater St. Louis
metropolitan area states that he is "from St. Louis." E.g. Jonathan Franzen
is from Webster Groves and Nelly & The St. Lounatics are from University
City. This sometimes annoys me. As a consequence of this custom, outsiders
usually don't know that, e.g. Ferguson, in St. Louis County, has no
connection whatever to the City of Saint Louis, one of several independent
cities scattered around the country.

come from the mouths of people who have had to live.
