Today's (December 3) Detroit Free Press has an article about how Fiat Chrysler is cooperating with Disney and Luscafilm in a series of ads featuring stuff from the upcoming Star Wars movie. Included in the discussion was the following:
'The partnership, in the works for more than a year, was challenging for the automaker since the "Star Wars" story takes place in space and relies mostly on spaceships and fighter jets for transportation.'
To the best of my knowledge TIE and X-wing fighters are not jet-powered, although heaven knows what is supposed to be their propulsive force. Still, apparently the phrase is now completely lexicalized.
