That seems clear and I'm fully persuaded. Yet, there remains a _bolshoi
konfuz_: if it's known that "jeepers" < "japers," then the earliest
_jeepers_ is of only academic interest, like an interdating.

Or is the apparent resemblance, in fact, merely apparent?
