On TV today in The Talk one of the panelists, an African-American woman, discussing whether Harrison Ford should continue playing Indiana Jones, said something like, "I don't want to throw shade on Harrison Ford, but his Indiana Jones is old enough to be Barnaby Jones."

>From this context, "throw shade" could mean "to make an uncomplimentary remark".
