The OED's earliest citation for the word "vaporware" is dated 1984.  Wikipedia refers to "Esther Dyson<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esther_Dyson>,[2]<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware#cite_note-Shea1984-2> who published it for the first time in her monthly newsletter RELease 1.0. In an article titled "Vaporware" in the November 1983 issue of RELease 1.0"  The Wikipedia entry for "vaporware" links to a PDF of Dyson's article.
