longitude: long [N#] ~ longer [Ng-V] --> British [loN-hard g + itude], but
American etc. [lon-dzh + itude]. In this case, long -er -est is the model
for the "excrescent" plosive [g+V]; the model for [dzh+V] has to be some
other spelling convention.
